GSAS Session PDF Print E-mail

GSAS Sessions are held in different parts of the world on research themes addressing critical Global Challenges such as Energy, Environment, Health and Security. The first GSAS Session addressed the Energy-related topic of Advanced Solar Cell Research.

Session Structure

GSAS Sessions last 5-10 days and consist of sytems-based lectures and project planning. Each Session involves GSAS Scholars and GSAS Fellows from around the world. Advanced graduate students and postdocs are recruited as GSAS Scholars. International experts from government, academia, and industry are invited to serve as GSAS Fellows.

A few months before the Session,  GSAS Scholars are grouped into Global Research Teams and challenged to begin plans for an innovative collaborative Global Research Project.

At the Session, they attend a "systems-based" lecture series linking policy, technology transfer, and manufacturing considerations with relevant science and engineering concepts.

They continue their collaborative project planning with mentoring from GSAS Fellows.

At the end of the Session, the Teams present their project plans for review by a panel of experts.

Returning home, they refine their plans  and prepare full-fledged project proposals. After the Session, the most promising projects are implemented via Team Research Fellowships at GSAS partner institutions.

GSAS Scholars and Fellows also enjoy local culture and visits to local research facilities!
