Participants

GSAS Participants come from developed and developing regions of the world:

  • GSAS Scholars are talented graduate students and postdocs from diverse fields of science and engineering.

  • GSAS  Fellows are senior experts from academia, goverment and industry.

Curriculum

The dual GSAS curriculum consists of:

  1. Face-to-Face Sessions, where talented advanced graduate students and postdocs from around the world (GSAS Scholars) attend lectures by leading international experts (GSAS Fellows) and plan global research projects

  2. Team Research Fellowships, wherby GSAS Scholars are hosted by partnering research institutes to implement their collaborative research plans.

Key elements of our integrated approach are:

  • A "Systems" View of Research and Development

  • Research Planning and implementation

  • Global Mentoring

A "Systems" View of Research and Development

To lead effective global initiatives, future science and engineering leaders will need a broader understanding of research and development. GSAS lectures and projects emphasize a "Systems" approach that integrates advanced science and engineering skills with policy, technology transfer, manufacturing, and workforce development.

GSAS Scholars learn to consider the broader implications of their research, communicate their work to diverse stakeholders, and plan projects that cut across sectors and take advantage of international and regional strengths.

Research Planning and implementation

GSAS Research Planning and implementation offers GSAS Scholars hands-on experience in project development, proposal writing, and intercultural communication.

Interdisciplinary Global Research Teams design collaborative projects that leverage the best expertise and facilities around the world.  Projects are implemented via team research fellowships.

GSAS Scholars learn about global research infrastuctures and work with senior experts to create exciting global research synergies!

Global Mentoring

GSAS Scholars benefit from a wealth of cross-cutting expertise from around the world through project mentoring from world class experts in basic research, policy and manufacturing.

  • Before the Session, GSAS Fellows guide topic selection and suggest background readings.

  • During the Session, they attend project planning meetings and offer informal guidance during meals, cultural visits, and facility tours.

  • At the end of the Session, they listen to team presentations and offer feedback on project feasibility.

  • After the Session, they remain available for project evaluation and refinement.

An informal, collegial atmosphere fosters open communication among junior and senior researchers.
